Lycan Blood

  • Oct. 4th, 2009 at 3:05 PM

With "Serpent's Quest" available once more and "Fireborn Law" and "If Truth Dies" soon to be out, I thought I might talk a little bit about the series.

Like all of my books, it's a tapestry rather than a single hero novel. Although Kynyr Maguire is, ostensibly, the central character, it's actually an interlocking group of characters. I was surprised by which characters seemed the most popular in the series.

His grandparents were the subject of several blog posts various places across the web. One blogger, who just happened to share the name of Kynyr's grandfather, Todd Sinclair, stated that he wished he could have been that Todd.

A few have asked whether Cahira, Todd's wife, was myself in clever plastic disguise. I think it was the attitude and description, "A blond wisp of a woman with the temper of a stung badger."

No, she isn't at all like me. At least, not the way I see myself.

Oddly a lot of the email I have received from people said that their favorite was the villain, Malthus Estrobian.

Serpent's Quest is finally out at Amazon and other online spots.

They managed to not get the cover image up, so I"ll have to get that fixed.

Kynyr's War

  • Jun. 22nd, 2009 at 9:50 AM

Like all of the books in the Lycan Blood series, Kynyr's War (book four) was a victim of the original publisher, Renebooks. I dropped entire threads that contributed to the conclusions of the last and second to last books in the series, because if they went beyond a certain length the publisher, Jean Marie Stine, would chop them up into components like she did the first three books in my Dark Brothers of the Light series.

I just finished revising and restoring over 40,000 words to Kynyr's War. The Doherty family is now back in the books as they were originally meant to be instead of appearing (almost) out of the blue in the final two novels.

I have pitched it back to the editor and now wait on his reactions to it. There were a few places where I did not make the changes he asked for, and instead requested that he clarify what he wanted a bit more. The final version will come when I have that clarification in hand and can work on it.

And of course, he has to approve all of the added material.

Blurbs for Serpent's Quest

  • Mar. 27th, 2009 at 4:02 PM

I now have two blurbs.

The first one is from Lyn McConchie and I received it for the first edition of Serpent's Quest.

Janrae Frank's books are always something I grab the moment I have the chance. They are wonderful reads, well written, dense and richly evocative. She makes the reader see the worlds and characters which she has created and want always to see more of them as well. Her work is brilliant, hard-hitting, and the sort of thing I for one tend to be reading still at 2am since I can't put it down until I know how things are going to turn out.
Lyn McConchie

The second one is from Bob Freeman and is for the second revised and expanded edition.

"Janrae Frank is more than a writer, she is a world-builder. Serpent's Quest defies the limitations of genre because it is bigger than any one label can contain. It's an epic adventure, filled with unbridled horrors and sweeping romance, but more than that, Serpent's Quest is populated by characters who are visceral and alive. Serpent's Quest captivates you not only because of its larger than life drama, but because you become invested in the world as a living and breathing place."

Not bad blurbs for a worn out old has been.

On a personal note, there's a rumor going around that Lawrence Dagstine has volunteered his services to "Simone" to help her investigate me for sins against Scientology.

Serpent's Quest is now Available

  • Jul. 1st, 2008 at 8:14 AM

For a limited time only, the print edition of Serpent's Quest is available during the test marketing phase at a $2.00 discount.

On August 19th, the book will be made generally available through Lightning Source and at that time it will be carried through their distribution channels and the cover price will go up.

While the ebook can still be ordered through Fictionwise; the print edition contains an additional 10,000 words that is not in the electronic edition. And the print volume contains a map of Red Wolf by [info]dungeoneer.

Blood Hope is now available at Fictionwise.

My books are currently available at the Sony ebook store and in amazon kindle editions as well as at Fictionwise.

The print edition of Serpent's Quest has reached the page proofs stage. Steven Beeho did a fresh edit. Many scenes that were cut out of the ebook version because of length have been restored to the book. Kaolin Fire is currently working on the cover for it. Angeline Hawkes has graciously agreed to write the introduction to the book.

Blood Hope

  • May. 5th, 2008 at 1:28 AM

Blood Hope will be out on Monday the 12th at fictionwise. An excerpt has been posted on my website.

This is the first Dark Brothers of the Light novel to come out since November of 06.

It has been a long time coming.

The Shadowed Princes

  • Mar. 3rd, 2008 at 4:44 PM

The Shadowed Princes the final book in the Lycan Blood series is now out. However, the publisher screwed up and put the cover blurb from Kady's Vengeance on it and then instead of putting the first chapter in the sample read section, put just the poems that introduce the world.

I am feeling very frustrated. I have phoned and emailed to try to get it fixed, and not been able to get an answer yet.

I am very concerned that people will think that it's a new cover on a previous book, when it isn't.

This concludes the series.

I hope that you'll enjoy Cullen. He's profane, ready for trouble, but with a good heart.
