Serpent's Quest is finally out at Amazon and other online spots.

They managed to not get the cover image up, so I"ll have to get that fixed.

Kynyr's War

  • Jun. 22nd, 2009 at 9:50 AM

Like all of the books in the Lycan Blood series, Kynyr's War (book four) was a victim of the original publisher, Renebooks. I dropped entire threads that contributed to the conclusions of the last and second to last books in the series, because if they went beyond a certain length the publisher, Jean Marie Stine, would chop them up into components like she did the first three books in my Dark Brothers of the Light series.

I just finished revising and restoring over 40,000 words to Kynyr's War. The Doherty family is now back in the books as they were originally meant to be instead of appearing (almost) out of the blue in the final two novels.

I have pitched it back to the editor and now wait on his reactions to it. There were a few places where I did not make the changes he asked for, and instead requested that he clarify what he wanted a bit more. The final version will come when I have that clarification in hand and can work on it.

And of course, he has to approve all of the added material.

30 Years of Chimquar.

  • Jun. 29th, 2008 at 8:00 AM

Next year will be the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of my first Chimquar the Lionhawk story. It appeared in Amazons, edited by Jessica Amanda Salmonson. The anthology went on to garner the World Fantasy Award for best anthology in 1980. It is still considered a seminal work in feminist fiction.

Crystalwizard at Cyberwizard productions will be bringing out a special hardcover collector's edition of the Chimquar stories, including two brand new tales, in November of 2009 for Chimquar's thirtieth anniversary.

Blood Hope

  • May. 5th, 2008 at 1:28 AM

Blood Hope will be out on Monday the 12th at fictionwise. An excerpt has been posted on my website.

This is the first Dark Brothers of the Light novel to come out since November of 06.

It has been a long time coming.

Finished

  • Jan. 8th, 2008 at 11:27 PM

The final volume of the Lycan Blood series is now complete in first draft. The Shadowed Princes came in at just over 70k words. By the time i smooth it all out, I expect that it will be somewhere between 90 and 100k words long.

Over the next few weeks, I will be concentrating on my anthologies, and getting contracts and payments out to people. Acceptances and so forth. I feel very good about it.

I am weary and very satisfied by the way the novel tumbled out. I wrote the final two chapters in a blaze of inspiration, feeling driven to keep going until I was too tired to think each day. But it's finished.

Once i wrap up the anthology, I will be back to finish the final volumes of the Dark Brothers series.

Blessed are the critters....

  • Jun. 17th, 2007 at 8:06 PM

...Who keep finding the holes in my novels before they land at my editor's desk.

The biggest problem I have with series books is knowing how much back story and other matters need to be added into the next one to keep the work clear. People get lost in them sometimes. That is what led me to create the Compendium. When I get this next book finished, I am going to completely overhaul the free download version of the Compendium. Since Lulu.com requires registration to download or purchase, I'm going to set it up so that the Compendium can be downloaded directly from my website as soon as I finish the up-date on it.

But critters ask interesting questions and notice things that go right past me.

The line edit has begun on If Truth Dies, and the critters are critting.

The question that one of them asked recently caught me by surprise, both in its simplicity and attention to small detail. "Why does Cooley wear shoes when Rory is always barefoot?"

I had not paused to explain that Rory's family is too poor to afford shoes for their children.

I'm starting to be more aware of the fact that if I stop to argue with the critter, I'm wrong. If I have to stop to argue or explain, then it is clear that I failed somewhere in the text. this time around my critter generated Notes for Revision list has run to four single spaced pages.

Anthology updates

  • Mar. 27th, 2007 at 1:37 PM

Former agent, now an editor, Jane Letty is looking over the contract I put together for the anthology to make sure that all bases are covered. As soon as she gets back to me, I'll be sending them out.

When you get them, and you know who you are, but I'll put up a list, I will need for you to print out two copies and sign them. Send both of them to me and I'll counter sign them and send one copy back to you. When I get the contract back, I'll mail your checks out.

So far, we have stories by:
Lyn McConchie
Sharman Horwood
Nicholas Mounts
Kaolin Fire
Susie Hawes
Tracy Keegan
Lena Sawyer
Natalie Daniels
Luna Black
Deann Allen

And several authors have promised to sub something before the deadline of June 1st.

Now that everything has begun to come together in my life, there will not be another extension on the deadline. June 1st is it, folks.
