Validation is always nice. Over the past eight years, since I began to actively write fiction again, several people have tried to get me to mend my ways and write in a different style.

What I do is consistent, but rather old fashioned (or so I am told) and some have called it (erroneously) third omniscient. Luna Black got the closest to it when she called it “Russian Panoramic” but that was not right either.

I tried so hard to tone the style down that I only ended up dissatisfied and unhappy over the past few years. I have a style that is natural to me, which started developing back when I was reading Dostoyevski, Tolstoy, and most especially Nicolai Gogol at 13.

Then yesterday a present from a friend arrived.

It’s a book by James Wood called “How Fiction Works.”

Lo and Behold, the style I write in has a name. The entire book is about Free Indirect Style.

Yes, it is an old-fashioned style; but so long as it works, why fix it?
25th-May-2008 01:58 pm - Sins of Innocence
I'm currently working on Sins of Innocence, book one in a new series Child Profane and Sacrosanct. I'm up to 40k on it.

Some readers have been wondering if I would ever get back to telling the story of the Sacred Child, whom Dynarien had been instructed to look for at the end of the Sacred King novels. This is it.

Amberlin, the shop keeper who is secretly (as those who read the previous series know) a battlemage and demi-god; Britlyn, the rebellious leader of the five surviving lifemages; Skree and Taun; and the assassin, Edouina Hornbow, are back at last.

They are facing off against a notorious band of sa'necari bounty-hunters and the lives of the five-year-old twins, Wolff and Fauxx de Waejonan, hang in the balance.
5th-May-2008 01:28 am - Blood Hope
Blood Hope will be out on Monday the 12th at fictionwise. An excerpt has been posted on my website.

This is the first Dark Brothers of the Light novel to come out since November of 06.

It has been a long time coming.
3rd-Feb-2008 02:05 pm - Many, many updates
Kady's Vengeance, the sixth book in the Lycan Blood series will be out at Fictionwise tomorrow. An excerpt is up on my website.

The final book in the series is currently being read by my editor, [info]dwerenat. All of the requested changes have been made, and at this point there might be a few nits to pick, but the work is over.

For the first time since I have been working with Jean, she picked my next editor. Blood Harvest, my previous book in the Dark Brothers of the Light series, got a bit out of hand and suffered a few serious flaws. These are going to be fixed in the next edition. She broke the sub-threads out into their own series and said that I was trying to combine three novels into one volume. I agreed.

Now she wants me to have an editor who is not afraid to slap me around and keep me in line. For the first time in my life, I have a male editor. Steven Beeho is irritating, aggravating, has an ego the size of Manhattan, and he does not hesitate to tell me when I'm wrong.

I tend to be more than a bit intimidating, but Steven stands up to me and at times it is like the immovable object meets the irresistible force.

He also reads my blogs.

An interviewed with me is in Flashing Swords issue nine which just came out. I enjoyed doing the interview.

Now, I'm getting organized to start reading for the anthology that I'm doing, which features an awesome cover by Kaolin Fire.
